Outdated TB Guide Limits Access and Usability
For more than a decade, the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) has relied on the Georgia TB Reference Guide — a 112-page pocket booklet — to share important information on tuberculosis (TB) prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across the state.
While this printed guide has been a trusted resource, its static format no longer meets the needs of today’s fast-changing public health environment. Updates happen only every few years and require reprinting and distributing thousands of copies statewide.
As a result, providers often rely on outdated information or have to search through lengthy PDFs to find what they need. These challenges revealed a clear opportunity: to transform the guide into a dynamic, digital tool that offers real-time updates, quick access, and an improved user experience for healthcare professionals across Georgia.

The entire process felt effortless. The site looks sharp, loads fast, and reflects our brand perfectly — couldn't ask for more.
The printed guide is only revised every few years, delaying access to the latest TB protocols and recommendations.
Providers rely on physical copies or long PDFs, making quick access to information difficult.
Each update requires statewide printing and distribution, wasting time and resources.
The booklet lacks real-time updates and search, limiting its usefulness in today's fast-paced healthcare environment.
Developing a digital Georgia TB Reference Guide App gives providers instant access to updated guidelines, improving efficiency and consistency in TB care statewide
