Inspiration:

We read an article about how women are invisible in healthcare and then tried looking at interventions for women in disaster struck zones & crisis zones, and barely found any application so we decided to address that gap and work towards the most marginalized group in the society. We specifically wanted it to be women centric as "general" is not neutral. In design and resource allocation, "general" often defaults to a male-centric perspective, rendering the unique and heightened risks for women invisible. A general app would treat maternal health and gender based violence as edge cases, when in a crisis, they are central, life-or-death issues.

By making the intervention women-centric, we are choosing to focus on the group whose specific needs are most acute, least likely to be met by standard relief efforts, and whose well-being has the largest ripple effect on our community survival and recovery.

What it does:

A post-crisis intervention App which both people who are impacted by the crisis and their caregivers can benefit from.

Challenges we ran into:

Time being short was one of our biggest challenges, given that we were aiming for more features due to the nature of the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

We’re proud of how the tool assesses injuries offline. We’re also very proud of our team’s hardwork & coordination.

What we learned:

  • How to prioritize important features when building projects

  • How to implement and add AI in our tools to improve app and feature efficiency

  • How AI can boost delivery time

  • How (familiarity with) the technologies we use also plays a big role

What's next:

  • We didn’t have enough time to train the Google MLKit model with enough data so that it could provide analysis on different pictures/cases.

  • Add Context/History with the Emergency AI Chat. As it is, the data persists, but it treats each prompt as a new one.

  • Proper filtering of health-related facilities on the geolocation page.
